The Impact From December 1, 2020 through April 1, 2021 the Zufall Eats van distributed 11,840 school meals.
Zufall Health provides high-quality, affordable medical treatment to New Jersey’s working poor, uninsured, and under-served populations. We offer high quality, affordable healthcare in a culturally competent way to all in need, regardless of their ability to pay. Almost 80% of Zufall’s patients are at or below 200% of the federal poverty level, 53% are uninsured, and 61% are best served in a language other than English. Approximately 25% of all Dover residents and 100% of uninsured Dover residents are patients at Zufall. Impact100’s grant has had a significant positive impact on the Dover community by increasing access to food. It is critical to intervene while patients are young to prevent obesity, diabetes, hypertension, dental disease, and other serious chronic conditions. Our focus on prevention includes the Zufall Eats food truck that will take healthy meals and nutrition education to the neighborhoods most in need. From December 1, 2020, through April 1, 2021, the Zufall Eats van distributed 11,840 school meals. Originally, the Zufall Eats program was focused on summer meal distribution. By adjusting the program plan (with support of the Impact100 Garden State team), we were able to bring meals to families on a regular basis during the school year. In addition to school meals, Zufall Eats distributed 4,340 pounds of donated food from local pantries and farms. Our application process occurred during the peak of the pandemic but Impact100 communicated and provided guidance at every step along the way. Since receiving the grant, we continue to have regular, ongoing conversations with Impact100 as well as individual members who have donated items for the project as well as volunteer time.

A Better Education for Everyone
From the moment we were chosen, the Impact100 leadership has been in constant contact, offering support and guidance. Palm Beach Dramaworks (PBD) is a professional theatre company that presents classic plays and world premieres that spark conversation, as well as plays for students that stimulate critical thinking skills. Our tours for students tackle pressing social issues deeply affecting our community, such as conflicts between communities and law enforcement and teen human sex trafficking. These multifaceted projects give young people a deeper understanding of the issues surrounding them, and gives them vocabulary to discuss these issues with peers and adults. South Florida is the third largest region in the nation for teen human sex trafficking, and the average age of trafficked children in Palm Beach County is 13. We sought to create awareness of the multi-dimensional human trafficking issue through a free touring program. Without Impact100’s generous and encouraging support we couldn’t have created an impactful and lasting school touring project. Impact100’s support allowed us to commission a play from one of the best YA playwrights in the nation who wrote a powerful and engaging play detailing the story of three trafficked teens. The funding also allowed us to produce awareness banners and posters for the entire school, further promoting and deepening awareness. Impact100’s funding gives us the ability to perform this play in perpetuity and expand our reach to engage and enlighten more students. We knew our proposal had to be thorough and solid to persuade Impact100 to fund this important program. From the moment we were chosen, the Impact100 leadership has been in constant contact, offering support and guidance. No other funding organization is as attentive and encouraging.

Casa
Our 18 month goal was to serve 25 foster youth, but within 12 months we served over 50. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Contra Costa County recruits, trains and supports volunteers, including licensed mental health professionals, to provide support and services to youth in foster care. The CASA Therapy Project recruits licensed therapists to provide one hour a week of free therapy to foster youth for as long as the young person wants therapy. This program began because we discovered that many foster youth were ineligible for Medi-Cal funded mental health services. It was not considered a “medical necessity” even though, by definition, every foster child has experienced severe trauma caused by abuse and/ or neglect. Impact100 was the only organization that understood the impact this program could have for foster youth and the community as a whole. They provided the seed money to get the program off the ground, and the program has been more successful than we ever imagined. Our 18 month goal was to serve 25 foster youth, but within 12 months we served over 50. The program has been so successful that other funders have now stepped forward and we expect to roll out the program statewide. Impact100 was wonderful throughout the grant process. At the site visit, it was clear they read the material we sent to them, including the financials, and understood our mission. They asked intelligent questions and engaged in in-depth conversation about the issues impacting foster youth. The involvement of the large Impact100 community made us feel like we had the community behind our work. I have worked as a non-profit Executive Director for 35 years and this was far and away the best funding experience of my career.

A Better Education for Everyone
Caregiver Volunteers of Central Jersey (CVCJ) is founded on the conviction that the elderly, many of whom are disabled, and veterans should have access to essential support services without depleting their limited incomes. Our programs are nationally recognized, free of charge, and foster independence. In 2015, we fulfilled our longtime goal to expand into Monmouth County with our basic services, intending to offer our unique respite services once partnerships and a volunteer network were in place. To date, our volunteers are now serving 300 elderly in Monmouth. Since 2002, the Alzheimer’s Respite Care Program (ARCP) has offered long-term, weekly relief and support to family caregivers of those with dementia in their homes. It was cited in the “NJ Alzheimer’s Study Commission Report” as a model program for replication. With this robust network in place, and with an already established waiting list for our ARCP services, there was a clear path to introduce the much-needed relief and support of ARCP to families living with dementia in Monmouth County. With the support of the transformational Impact100 grant, we are on our way to achieving this goal. The Impact100 grant process alone sets them apart from other funders. As we worked on the application, it helped us better plan the execution of our project. Our Impact100 grant team spent so much time getting to know us and our project, and they were personally invested in our success! Impact100’s involvement and investment in us didn’t stop with us being funded. We have become part of the Impact100 network. We are continually connected to other funding opportunities as well as meaningful collaborative partners by Impact100 members.
